The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for greed in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky true story of the disgraced TV preacher and her criminal husband. Garfield acts as the venal Jim, who declares early on, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals commence profiting from the people's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, yet the lead actress achieves to show the real-life figure with compassion. Next Tuesday, early morning, on Film4
